Feed
In the food industry, various wastes generate during production. Wastes from raw materials and defective products are safe and nutritious and can be recycled safely. On the other hand, the cost for feeds accounts for 50 to 60% of that for pig fattening. That is the reason why we aimed to reduce the feed manufacture cost by improving recycling and efficient use of resources.
We conducted a joint research on obtaining feed from food residues with the Livestock Resource Department of Mie Prefecture Science and Technology Promotion Center. After carrying out five experiments on fattening pigs, we concluded that meat of those raised with food residue-recycled-feed were comparable with that of those fed the commercial feed mixture. Since pigs seemed to prefer the feed made from recycled food residue, we believe this venture has a potential for success. Currently, livestock growers in Mie Prefecture are experimentally using the food-recycled feed.
